The oddities await In desolate barrooms In train stations and alleys The drag queens are just backstage The record player is in the corner Words and worlds awaiting Pick up the lever and it spins Lay it down on the disk for more The same is true for Vincent Van Gogh That couple, always hiding behind birches Or the mummies and incas Their golden history, under glass The woods are quietly waiting The ocean exists The deserts don their peachy hues Even in Kentucky in February A landlocked soul In a trailer in the holler sees the stars Knows that the grass turns green That the world gets wide That a rhinoceros is waiting at the zoo.
