A wonderful recitation, D. It really was good to hear your voice again.

Kind of you to say, Anthony. It's been over a decade since we've last spoken. Gosh, so many miles between then and now, yes?

Miles, yes. Most times, that hardly matters. *Most* times.

I didn't think there could be anything better than sitting quietly reading a Damon Falke poem, essay or book. There is - listening to Damon reading is words. So beautiful.

I find this vivid description, of a place I've never been but would love to experience, oddly comforting. It's a relief from my current situation, which is that of a Hurricane Ian survivor. It's what I thought, too, as my building swayed in 150mph winds. We really don't know if we'll return to a place. Thanks Damon for this welcome diversion. Beautifully written.

Cherie, really thank you so much for the kind words. I sometimes wonder if our need for a place or an experience of place is part of the daily search. We are easily separated from our places and for any number of reasons. Not knowing you, I can only hope that you and your home are safe. You are generous to respond to the essay.
