Thanks, Sue! Once I looked at the text, I realized it flowed together really naturally. I'm so happy with how it came out. Thank you again for letting me share it!

Sue, I absolutely love this piece and it’s more germane to my day-to-day now than you might imagine.

First off, I love the photos and the painting that you did.

Second, this is exactly where I’m at. We took a low level painting class at the Art Students’ League last winter and:

1. I have a new and profound respect for painting. Not that I did not beforehand, but it has increased manyfold.

2. I now see things and think of how I would layer the paint on. Tonya and I have short and serious discussions about under and overpainting.

3. We’re on the road and brought a small watercolor set and your piece could be the thing that gets me to go out today and finally start using it.

Thanks again! I love this.

Paul, you made my day. Your experience with painting is very much like mine. Instead of seeing the rolling hills of Nevada's mountains, I see shadows and highlights. Between art and Jeff's geology wisdom, I see the landscape around me with more wonder and delight than possibly the average traveler dashing down the highway. The interior Great Basin and Southwest are visual treasures, especially when art, science, and history meld to provide the backstory. Every time we drive out to Middlegate and pass through the playa southeast of Fallon, I look up at that waterline high on the hill above Grimes Point Archeological site and "see" an ancient fisherman on the shore. Happy trails to you and Tonya.

P.S. Last night as we left the cafe in our local casino, I saw a couple who reminded me of you two. I had to remind myself you're in Florida. Are you there for the winter or just for a few weeks respite? I hope you're enjoying your painting set. My daughter told me yesterday she bought a drawing set for herself because she missed drawing a lot. It should bring back some sanity to her crazy life. (Mom of two tiny tornadoes.)

Sue, you say "Grimes Point" and I'm instantly on Highway 50, staring into the distance. I'm just futzing with the "remembering" assignment that my boss sent out and now I'm watching how my mind works, for better or for worse.

In FLA now. Tonya is being a good sport. She knows I have a fascination with this state - from a photographic angle - and I also get writing done here. That being said, we head west to the Big Easy in a couple of weeks. More will be revealed.

We hope to get out west this year.
