I usually read about my island (Vancouver Island, that is) from the perspective of other Canadians, mainly other British Columbian Canadians. I was intrigued by this glimpse through foreign eyes.
I know I live in one of the most fabulous places on earth, but I was intrigued that an American decided to come wandering here. Years ago I wrote a piece for the Zephyr about Vancouver Island, and what's happened to it in this new millennium, since the developers and tourists caught wind of it. The sleepy fishing-village vibe you picked up might still be evident on a winter's day, but Tofino has become so ravaged by tourists that when I go out there now, I usually stay in Uclulet. So I hope there are still places like the island you went to, safeguarded by indigenous communities and shared only with discretion. All I know is, no one has ever offered to ferry me over there. 😅
wonderful. thank you Patrick. I've always wanted to visit Tofino, a beautiful part of the PNW.

I am curious what you thought of this as a local. Thank you for reading!
Love this story. Thank you!!!
I loved this story of a seemingly chance meeting that led to a visit to the island and the unexpected finale of the bald eagle swoop.
