This poem is mesmerizing, beautiful, and so tragic. That last line strikes straight to the heart, through the sternum and into that central core. So glad Sean has found his way to Juke.

Thank you, Sean! So many haunting turns here. This is one I'll return to. I especially like the way the story uncurls itself insistently like thoughts seem to do in the wee hours when sleep won't come.

What makes this poem is its casual cruelty. One boy with a stone, and the next thing you know you’re in a mason jar.

I'm so glad you noticed that! Do you ever feel like you're the one in the jar? Or pinned to the wall in a bug collection, like Prufrock? Sometimes it seems like the price of living in society is bearing up under cruel scrutiny. Thank you for picking that out.
