sigh ... after sixteen years in Truckee, and another nine in Santa Cruz where the incessant moisture foster spectacular growths of mold, I'm really happy we finally found a little square of land we call Camelot. Storms rage around and sometimes upon us, but more often than not, the weather is benign and gentle. We're even getting used to the summer heat that buts up against 100 degrees. We've got an excessively warm winter this year. It reminds me of when we moved here ... January 13th ... and a gigantic puddle formed in the rainstorm that the movers had to bridge with their ramp. That same rainstorm would've dumped eight feet of snow in the driveway for us to plow. OY!

It seems that global warming hits us big time every fifteen or so years.

I toss up my hands these days about the climate. toss up my hands, avoid the puddles, and stay cool as much as possible, except when it gets too cold...

We may as well relax. The climate is going to do what it's been doing for eons and we're really kind of arrogant and naive to think we can stop it. Nuff sed!

I loved this piece, Paul. You have a way of making your memories so alive. And the snow days were spectacular. I could see you almost, running around, kicking the snow up. You have that ability to remember and give just the right details to bring us into past-present. The hill, the yard, the time with Roland. We're expecting snow tonight, and I hope we get good enough coverage. I made snow angels my whole life. My last one was during the storm on Feb 12, 2006. It was over by your street near the river where the snow piled high. I was surprised it was so long ago. But it was a really really good one. And so much fun, always.

Thanks so much, Connie! Limited internet at the moment or I'd say more It's in the 70s where we are now. Sending love.

Bravo! If you all want snow head to VT we still have more than we need for far too long and we've got Bernie too, who like the snow seems to go and go and go.

Loved this so, Paul! Then as now, I never took pleasure in snow or cold - I didn't skate, I hated snowball throwing & my capacity for chill is forever limited. But thank you for the beautiful evoked memories of the soup & grilled cheese sandwiches, the cozy indoorness with the mad vista outside my window, the images of my dad smilingly shoveling acres of snow during the 1969 "Lindsay Snowstorm." I will continue to embrace shifting seasons & you nailed a place & time so beautifully.

Same here, Ellen. Thanks so much!

I also lament the diminishing snows here in Wisconsin. Snow is part of my gen x nostalgia.

Thanks, Tania. Climate change, for those who believe in science. "Nothing to see here" for the other crowd...
