A magnificent story. "I know where the empty room is, and know I'll be standing in its doorway again." but there is so much music and soft tree leaves, and that bird in the tree singing a song have will never be again. Glorious.

I too have seen my hometown and my childhood be erased, vaguely familiar, but essentially gone. No one there remembers me. Perhaps it wasn't wildfire that destroyed it, but the onslaught of human progress and growth and surging energy chasing nothing of significance. A paycheck for a mortgage. Freeways turning to parking lots. My old houses and streets reconfigured, torn down and replaced. As I write this, I think of that old sci-fi movie, The Time Machine and how he sees his world morph through the eons. sigh

Thank you Tonya. A beautiful way to start this day. I too have been mesmerized by Jane Kenyon’s Otherwise, and by the lower case otherwise. How to make the feeling of the miraculous stay? We forget somehow, until we’re reminded by a piece like yours. By art.
