I could not stop thinking about Albert Brooks and Dan Aykroyd in the opening of the Twilight Zone movie. Brooks turns off the headlights...Aykroyd gets nervous... "There may be nuns ahead," jokes Brooks. We all know how it turns out. (Better than a Motel 6) ... You wanna see something really scary? Nice, evocative piece here.
I kept hearing Tom Waits "Diamonds on My Windshield" in my mind as I read your essay.....particularly his line ......"and the radio's gone off the air, and it gives you time to think"

I shoulda said the motel looks like a gold nugget. It was what I was thinking. Part of a gold rush era.
Omg. Another planet, yes a cockpit, but what a flight. Great writing from the soul. And the motel looks like gold. Really great.
