Dome of Light
Not far from the loneliest highway a geothermal plant hums serenading the desert silence on a playa that glistens with a patina of rain. It casts a brilliant glow in a stark hemisphere. We wait for Pony riders to emerge from the dark, silhouetted by the glare of a Jeep’s headlights. After the shuffle of hooves passes, a ghost of history, I step outside the golden halo into deep black midnight beyond the terminus of security, look up through a veil of stars and see the luminescence at the core of our Universe.
